The Bosso Family Website - Our first trip to the ER

It wasn't a question of "if" it would happen but more of a question of "when". Now we know.

Last night Ryan was helping Dad fill the pellet stove and he accidentally closed the big steel lid on his right thumb. There was of course lots of crying and swelling but no bleeding. We were worried that he might have broken his thumb, so we gave him some Kids Tylenol and packed the family into the car. Just over an hour later we had the x-ray results back showing that everything was indeed fine. So now Ryan has not only had his first trip to the ER, but also his first x-ray!

Such wonderful milestones.

I was really surprised how easy and quick the ER stop was. Only a two forms to sign and a few minutes waiting. Ryan did remarkably well, considering the circumstances. He only cried for 10 minutes at the house. The rest of the time he just sat quietly and mentioned periodically that his thumb hurt. He followed the directions of the doctors and nurses (who, oddly, he insisted in calling Dentists) with no complaints. He even sat still for the magically x-ray (which is all digital these days, btw). I think the kid was kinda interested in the whole "I can see my bones" thing :)

The Dent, er, Doctors said that he should just ice it a bit and try to move it as much as possible. I'm pretty sure we can follow those orders.
